P.E. Trudeau

Maria Yaciuk, 1979, 9" x 12"

Maria has brilliantly portrayed former Prime Minister of Canada Pierre Trudeau as an aging flower child. The background and peace medallion are done in gold leaf and there's a rich luster from 16 coats of varnish (Maria has provided a meticulous record of her steps on the back). This was one of perhaps a dozen portraits of world leaders by the same artist I found at a Salvation Army thrift store. Other subjects included Golda Meir and Prince Phillip, but, for me this is Maria's masterpiece.
